Anuradha Bahl, One of two rescued Noida sisters dies

One of the two Noida sisters near here who had locked themselves in their apartment for six months and did not take food died in a hospital on Wednesday, a day after they were rescued by police.

Anuradha Bahl, 43, who had organ failure, died in Kailash Hospital, authorities said, owing to severe malnourishment from the self-inflicted starvation.

Anuradha and her younger sister Sonali, both unmarried, had shut themselves from the world and were in deep depression living in their house in the upscale Sector-29. They lived in stink and were sick and had sores.

Their rooms reeked of bad odour when the rescuers reached them on Tuesday.

They lived in loneliness and were rescued by police and an NGO only after neighbours tipped off.

Reports said younger Sonali was not told about Anuradha’s death.

Sonali is under acute depression, doctors at Kailash Hospital said.

It was loneliness and family tragedies that drove the sisters to depression.

They had lost their father in a car crash in 1995 and their mother had died soon after too. T

Their brother Vipin Bahl, who was however present at the hospital Wednesday, also later moved out after marriage, reports said.
