BJP urges PM to expedite Telangana decision

New Delhi : A 15-member delegation of Telangana Udyamam Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ‘s Andhra Pradesh unit on Wednesday met the Prime Minister and urged him to expedite the decision on a statehood.

They submitted a memorandum demanding immediate introduction of a bill in Parliament and an early decision on the volatile issue.

Led by G. Kishan Reddy, MLA and state president of BJP, along with senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu, MP and Purushottam Rupala, MP and Incharge, BJP, Andhra Pradesh, met Prime Minister in Parliament House and presented the memorandum.

The delegation impressed upon the Prime Minister that continuous uncertainty is hurting the interests of the State and people of both the regions and there is need for early decision.

They reminded the Prime Minister that the Congress party had promised the people in 2004 and 2009 elections and also the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, during her joint election campaign with TRS a separate state.

They also reminded about the statement of the Union Home Minister on Dec 9 last year and requested him to expedite the process.

The delegation also urged the PM to impress upon the state government to withdraw cases against students involved in the agitation in the state.

The Prime Minister promised that he will speak to the state Government in this regard, the BJP said.

The PM also said that after receiving the report of Justice Sri Krishna Committee, the government will initiate action and he agreed with the delegation that uncertainty for long is not in the interest of Andhra Pradesh which is a progressing state, the BJP claimed in a release.
