Cash-for-vote: Police likely to file another charge sheet

Delhi Police Friday told a court hearing the cash-for-vote case that they are likely to file another charge sheet soon.

“We may file another charge sheet in the case,” public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan told Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal here Friday.

“The case is not in the stage of final argument, so we can file a supplementary charge sheet with a CFSL (Central Forensic Science Labaratory) report,” Mohan said.

Confirming the development, Mohan told IANS that the charge sheet would contain transcripts of the audio and video CDs that allegedly contained recording of Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh’s former private secretary Sanjeev Saxena paying the then Bharatiya Janata Party MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahavir Bhagora and Ashok Argal bribes ahead of the confidence vote.

The announcement came after counsel for the accused moved an application seeking the transcripts, copies of mirror images of the CDs and other documents of the case.

The court directed the prosecution to file a reply to the accused’s application and listed the matter for further hearing April 30.

Meanwhile, the court allowed exemption from attendance to Amar Singh after his counsel suggested that he is busy in the ongoing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi Police, in their charge sheet filed earlier, held that during the investigation sufficient evidence had come on record that on the morning of July 22, 2008, Amar Singh hatched a criminal conspiracy with his secretary to deliver cash of Rs.1 crore as illegal gratification.

On that day, the three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government in the trust vote.
