CWG: We will definitely perform, says Mattoo
As the athletes and teams start arriving in the national capital, the organisers of the chaos-tarnished Commonwealth Games said they would “deliver what needs to be delivered”.
“People today are working round the clock. Take a look at the village. May be some delay can be analysed, but everyone is concerned,” said Organising Committee (OC) treasurer A K Mattoo.
“We will deliver what needs to be delivered,” Mattoo told a TV debate.
On Saturday, Suresh Kalmadi, the OC chairman and the man in the eye of storm for the Games mess, said he would take all the responsibility for the glitches but defended himself saying “I wish the venues were handed to us a little earlier.”
As many as 37 athletes and team officials from 11 nations and territories arrived in New Delhi till Saturday for the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi as CWG Federation President Mike Fennell declared at a media briefing that there would be full participation in the Games.
Five Chefs de Mission Shelley Burich (Samoa), Tuelo Serufho (Botswana), Elizabeth Renay Petersen (Namibia), France Simon Lespoir (Seychelles) and Mohammed Beade Sahnoon (Ghana) as well as Samoa team official Tagifano Taosoga and Botswana team general manager Game Gynnith were among the arrivals.
