Delhi blast: Police chief meets Chidambaram

Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta on Thursday met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram over Delhi High Court blast issue.

?Explosives used are less than 250gm. The type of bomb which exploded yesterday was not aimed at causing major damage,? Gupta told reporters after meeting Chidambaram.

?It was a low intensity and mild blast and that’s why even the car under which it was placed, was not damaged much. We will come to know about the explosive in a day or two,? he said.

?Our best investigators -our special branch and crime branch-are conducting the inquiry,” said the police chief.

A device in a plastic bag kept outside the Delhi High Court in a parking lot exploded causing panic in the area on Wednesday afternoon, but no one was injured from the blast of low intensity nature.

A senior police official said the blast occurred from a plastic bag kept in the parking lot and not from a malfunction in a car from heat as thought initially.

“We have called our forensic team for collecting samples of the explosion,” Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Dharmendra Kumar said.

The bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot besides fire tenders.

The parking lot is for the lawyers of Delhi High Court.

The area is heart of Delhi near the India Gate and Pragati Maidan.
