A 23-year-old Delhi Police constable, who had married against his family’s wishes just four days ago, shot himself to death with his service revolver in the capital, police said Friday.
Pankaj Kumar, who had been attached to West Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar police station since 2011, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver around 10.45 p.m. Thursday.
He was deputed at the house of Vikram Arora, who was provided court security as he is an eyewitness in a murder case.
“Last night Kumar put the gun in his mouth and shot a bullet at GS-6, Paschim Vihar, Arora’s residence. Hearing the bang, Arora’s family members rushed outside and found him inside the security guard quarter where he was lying in a pool of blood,” said V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police.
He is survived by his parents and his wife with whom he had married just four days ago against the wishes of his family members.
“After his love marriage, his family have been opposing his decision, because of which he was upset. It might be the reason behind his step,” added Renganathan.
His family members reside in south Delhi’s Begumpur area while he was staying in West Delhi’s Rohini area after his marriage.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot and police probe is on into the incident.
