Don’t close riots case probe against Tytler, court told

The widow of a 1984 anti-Sikh riots victim has moved a Delhi court against a magistrate’s order rejecting her plea to not close a probe against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a communal violence case.

The magistrate earlier rejected Lakhwinder Kaur’s plea opposing a decision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to close the probe against Tytler.

The additional sessions court would next hear the case March 19.

Kaur’s counsel Kamna Vohra said that the court should direct the CBI to investigate the matter to bring on record the available incriminating evidence against the accused in the interest of justice.

Kaur filed the application challenging the magistrate’s order April 27, 2010, accepting the closure report filed by the CBI.

Her husband Badal Singh was burnt to death near Pul Bangash in north Delhi in 1984 during the anti-Sikh riots which broke out after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the then prime minister.
