Double standard cremation – Nigambodh

Delhi?s biggest and most popular Nigambodh cremation-ground has been redeveloped now by having three more ?semi-VVIP? pyres in addition to one earlier high-raised platform known as ?VVIP? pyre. There is no difference between ordinary and ?semi-VVIP? pyres except a different name to distinguish pyres for people of status from others! Status-difference should at least be abolished after death.

Municipal and Arya Samaj authorities managing the cremation-ground are regularly approached to book main VVIP platform for cremation of persons from rich and influential families. This craze for show of status should be encashed by charging say rupees twenty-five thousand per cremation for using the raised VVIP platform. If idea proves success, more such raised VVIP platforms can be made for extra earnings for regular development and providing extra facilities at cremation grounds in different parts of the capital city.

All those requiring state-cremation in Delhi should be cremated at Brar-square military crematorium only to avoid great inconvenience to general public and security-threat to VVIPs attending the cremation like happened at cremation of the then Vice President Krishna Kant at Nigambodh Ghat. System should be evolved to issue computerized death-certificates instantly at the time of cremation itself by providing round-the-clock staff at least on main crematorium centers like on Nigambodh ghat to avoid later visits to a place recalling grief and sorrow.
