Govt implements 69 schemes for Naxal-hit districts
New Delhi : Sixty-nine development schemes of various Ministries of Government of India are being implemented for comprehensive development of naxal affected areas in the country.
The implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 as well as of the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996, strengthening of governance structures and more effective implementation of major schemes are some of the initiatives to counter naxalism.
Planning Commission has been monitoring progress of the development initiatives in 35 LWE affected districts of the Central Government?s flagship programmes.
Planning Commissioin has initiated the process of preparing integrated Action Plans (IAPs) for Left Wing Extremism affected district, which envisage comprehensive and rapid development of the affected areas.
Total number of naxal incidents in 2009 were 2258 and in the current year (upto 31st October, 2010) are 1842. In 2009, the number of incidents in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa were 742, 529 and 266 respectively, whereas in the current year (upto 31st October, 2010), the incidents are 424, 522 and 178 respectively.
This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Ajay Maken in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
