Hyper activities are on in the political circles and judiciary in the national capital of India as the United Progessive Alliance government’s lawyers are expected to reply a Supreme Court’s query as to why the Prime Minister took so long to take action on a minister allegedly involved in the 2G spectrum scam.
Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium is scheduled to reply to the Supreme Court’s queries related to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s ‘silence’ in the spectrum scam.
The Congress said the government will give an appropriate response to the apex court.
On Tuesday, the court asked the government to explain why the PM took 11 months to respond to a request by former Law Minister Subramaniam Swamy that asked for Telecom Minister A Raja to be prosecuted for the 2G scam.
The SC has asked the government a question and it will give an appropriate response on Thursday, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.
Tewari said the PM acted by securing Telecom Minister A Raja’s resignation before the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) was tabled in Parliament.
Earlier on Wednesday, Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium said that the Supreme Court’s remarks of alleged inaction by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the 2G spectrum scam are not an embarrassment, even as India’s major opposition BJP demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the whole issue and an immediate response from the PM to the court.
“We will answer it in the court,” said Solicitor General .
