Home Ministry ‘unhappy’ with Karnataka vote

The Union Home Ministry is said to be ‘unhappy’ over the way the Karnataka Assembly held the confidence vote on Monday after disqualifying sixteen legislators and it believes the rule of law was violated.

Highly placed sources said that the way the state assembly moved defying their governor’s directive and not allowing the “rebel” lawmakers to function was an abuse of the anti-defection law, the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

They said the Tenth Schedule does not apply to independents and, therefore, there was no question of their disqualification.
