Man wanted in 13 criminal cases arrested
New Delhi : Listed as one of the top 10 most wanted criminals by the Delhi Police, a 28-year-old man involved in 13 criminal cases, including murder, was arrested here, police said Friday.
Sanjay Rathi was arrested on a tip-off Thursday from the Bawana area of north Delhi where he had come to kill Rajender Singh, with whom he had a property dispute.
The police laid a trap on the Ghoga-Harevali road leading to Bawana. As soon as the accused realized he was trapped, he opened fire at the police.
“We overpowered him and arrested him,” said a police officer.
The police have solved 13 cases including murder, attempt to murder, robbery and car-theft and recovered a 9 mm pistol and three cartridges from Rathi’s possession.
“He had spread a reign of terror in Outer Delhi and Haryana. He was wanted in many heinous crimes,” said the official adding that a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh had been declared for anyone providing information about Rathi.
Rathi along with his acquaintance had shot dead a man in February, 2012 in Khajavala area of north Delhi while his gang members killed one of his relatives in January, 2012 who was supposed to testify against Rathi in a case.
