Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called a meeting on Tuesday of his senior minister to discuss the Food Security Bill recommended by the National Advisory Council (NAC).
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar besides the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia would attend the meeting.
The NAC recommends that the new law should provide a legal entitlement to subsidised foodgrains for at least 75 per cent of the population, which translates into 90 per cent of the country’s rural population and 50 per cent of the urban population.
