Manmohan Singh highlights challenge to internal security

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said despite a relatively stable internal security situation, the nation must not be complacent and forget the attacks in places like Pune and Varanasi.

Urging all to remain vigilant to terrorism and left wing extremism, he told a meeting of chief ministers on internal security here that incidents like the “attacks in Pune and Varanasi should jolt us out of complacency.”

“The new facts unearthed by the NIA and CBI should remind us of the new adversaries and the threats that face us,” he said.

“Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand continue to be a cause of concern,” he said, referring to Maoist strikes and urged for extra caution.

The Prime Minister also expressed concern over the Jammu and Kashmir situation despite relative calm at the moment.
