Metro link connecting CWG venue opened
A key metro link connecting the main venue of the Commonwealth Games-Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium – was opened on Sunday in New Delhi.
The fully underground Central Secretariat (CTST) ? Qutub Minar Metro corridor, which forms a part of the 27 km long Central Secretariat (CTST) ? HUDA City Centre (Gurgaon) Metro corridor, opened for the commuters on an important day up to Sarita Vihar from Central Secretariat.
This is a 16-km long stretch. Sarita Vihar is about 5 km short of the last station at Badarpur.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director E Sreedharan flagged off the inaugural train- Standard Gauge- from the Central Secretariat station at 8 am.
“It is a matter of great pride and glory for all of us in Delhi Metro that the Badarpur line has been substantially opened up to Sarita Vihar. This marks almost the completion of our Phase-II project,” said Sreedharan at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
With this, the Delhi Metro will provide a direct link to Gurgaon, another satellite town of the National Capital Region (NCR), after NOIDA in Uttar Pradesh, which is already a part of the Delhi Metro network.
This section is an extension of the operational Line 2 (Jehangirpuri ? Central Secretariat) corridor. The whole corridor (from Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre/Gurgaon) will be called Line 2 (Yellow Line).
Upon its integration with the already operational 14.47 km long Qutub Minar – Gurgaon corridor, it will form an approximately 45 km long Metro line connecting North Delhi (Jahangirpuri), South Delhi (Green Park, Saket, AIIMS, Hauz Khas) and Gurgaon (HUDA City Centre) in one network.
The time taken to travel from Central Secretariat to HUDA City Centre (Gurgaon) will be approximately 48 minutes.
