More trouble ahead for Adarsh Society

New Delhi : The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest is considering to issue a notice to the controversial Adarsh Housing Society after the Maharastra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) sought a clarification from the Centre about alleged violation in building the high rise apartment at Colaba in Mumbai.

The Ministry had received a report from the MCZMA on Nov 9 on alleged gross violations of Adarsh Housing Society, the housing originally meant for the Kargil war widows and families.

The MCZMA alleged the Society did not have required permission of the competent authority under Coastal Regulation Zone. The report said the height of the building was increased in violation of the allowed floor space index. The floor space index has been computed excluding the area for the amenities like staircase, lift and lobby.

Another report said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to file a case in the Adarsh scam after a report from a Mumbai team to its director.

A two-member CBI team from Mumbai is likely to arrive here on Friday and meet the the director to discuss the 31-storied Adarsh Housing’s affair.

The CBI has already registered a Source Information Report ( SIR) and has called in for documents from all concerned parties including the defence.

Heads have started rolling on the Adarsh scam with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan losing his job while many others, including some defence top brass, are under scanner.
