NDA to intensify agitation for JPC
The Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party has planned to take to the street on Wednesday with a movement among the people scam after they failed to have a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted during Parliament session to probe 2G spectrum allocations.
The Opposition alliance partners- the Janata Dal-United, Shiv Sena and Akali Dal leaders will appear together along with BJP’s LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and party president Nitin Gadkari on the same platform and speak for the importance of having a JPC to probe the alleged corruption in 2G spectrum allocation.
Traffic in the national capital is expected to be affected largely as the ” Maha Sangram” is expected to be attended by thousands of party activists arriving from different regions.
The NDA remained united on its demand for a JPC and rejected the Congress stand that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was enough to probe the 2G scam.
NDA convenor Sharad Yadav has not given much weight on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s offer to appear before the PAC, saying the Opposition had not raised the issue of his being summoned before the Parliamentary Committee.
“JPC means sky is the limit while PAC has limited powers….JPC is a sort of mini-Parliament which is the only instrument left to deal with the issue of corruption. I still want Congress to give up its adamant attitude. It is not good,” Yadav said.
He said the NDA was united in its fight for having a JPC and the fight wound continue until and unless the United Progressive Alliance’s government gave in.
