Parliament adjourned again over 2G scam

New Delhi, Nov 23 (IBNS) Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the eighth successive day without transacting any business on Tuesday as the Opposition persisted with the demand for a JPC into the 2G Spectrum scam and the government remained adamant on its stand on not conceding to the demand.

Opposition parties MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha started shouting slogans and displayed anti-government placards as soon as Parliament met for the day at 11 am.

Members of Treasury as well as Opposition benches trooped into the Well of the House amid counter-slogan shouting.

The Opposition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), persisted with the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the 2G Spectrum scam.

Treasury bench members were seen demanding sacking of BJP?s Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa over alleged land scams.

Amidst the din, both Houses were adjourned without taking up any business.

The Opposition parties have stalled business in the Parliament for the past two weeks to press for setting up of JPC to investigate the telecom scam, that led the Supreme Court to ask for a reply from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as to why did he take 11 months to give nod to a criminal proceeding against the “tainted” former Telecom Minister A Raja.

An all-party meeting by Union Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday failed to break the impasse.

The government rejects the JPC demand on the ground that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC),headed by BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, was looking into the matter, and it was enough to satisfy all quarters in the probe.
