Parliament pays homage to 2001 terror victims
New Delhi : Cutting across party lines, the ruling partners and the opposition on Monday paid homage to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Parliament in 2001.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and opposition BJP leader Sushma Swaraj led others to pay homage for the departed souls.
Nine people, including eight security personnel, were killed in the attacks by five armed terrorists.
Four accused, including Afzal Guru, who were arrested for the attack, were found guilty.
Guru, who is said to be a Jaish-e-Mohammed militant, was the only accused to be handed the death penalty.
But the sentence has been stayed as his mercy petition is pending.
