Rash driving again: Two killed in Delhi, one held
New Delhi : A 19-year-old accused of mowing down two people in south Delhi early Monday morning has been arrested, police said.
The accused, Manish, is the cleaner of the Swift Dzire car that belonged to an under-secretary in the external affairs ministry. The youth took the car for cleaning and was joined by three of his friends who are still at large.
The men who were run over have been identified as Sultan Singh (50), whose daughter was to get engaged Monday, and Raghu Verma Raja, in his 40s, who had come to the city from Bangalore to attend the ceremony.
The two were rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre where they were pronounced ead.
The car is registered in the name of Isha Shrivastava, wife of the MEA official Kartik Pandey.
The accident, the second case of rash driving in south Delhi in two days, was reported on the August Kranti Marg, opposite the Kamla Nehru College bus-stop. The car has been recovered from the accident site.
According to police, the car with the registration number DL 2C AL 7285, was being driven at around 100 km an hour when the accident took place. The police are still probing whether the car was stolen.
The accident comes a day after a speeding Lamborghini sports car crashed on a Delhi road divider, killing the driver who was a real estate tycoon’s son. The crash left a cyclist severely injured.
