Samajwadi Party leader shot dead

Agra : Shammi Kohli, a Samajwadi Party leader here, was shot dead overnight in a bus going to Lucknow by men who escaped into the dark, police said Tuesday.

Family members said she boarded the Volvo bus around 11.30 p.m. When the bus halted at a roadside eatery in Oraiya, passengers told the police that the killers barged in and shot her dead.

Two bullets pierced her chest and head, resulting in instant death.

The Delhi-born Shammi Kohli, who was locked in a legal battle with her daughter-in-law, was in the lottery business in the 1990s.

She later switched to liquor trading. She was known for her connections with senior officials and politicians of the Samajwadi Party.
