New Delhi : With just seven days left for the Commonwealth Games, it is found that all is not still well in the much criticized Games Village as only one-third of the flats are completely ready to host the athletes.
Only 409 out of 1168 flats are ready for use and more than 43 electricians and 24 plumbers are currently working at the Village, as CNN-IBN reports.
In addition to all this, water clogging seems to be a problem at the basement of the Village as plumbing problems need to be fixed.
49 tonnes of dirt was removed from the Village on Saturday.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit convened a meeting on Sunday at the CWG Village to take stock of the ground situation.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Organising Committee (OC), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
According to reports, Diskhit pulled up DDA for the shoddy work at the Games Village.
?What is remaining is basement? it’s a cause of little worry but with sunshine I’m hoping it will dry up and lifts will start?There’s no point commenting on passing the buck. I’m absolutely confident,? said Dikshit.
“Some work is still left to be done at the village. Water-logging is there in some of the towers that fall in the river bed. The process of pumping out water from there is going on. It should be completed soon. I will be happy and satisfied only after all the work is completed,” Dikshit said on the status of work remaining to be completed at the Village.
Asked about Kalmadi’s comment that the venues were not handed over in time, Dikshit said: “This is not the time for blaming each other. This is the time to cooperate and work with each other in order to have a successful Commonwealth Games.?
Also the Games’ image continues to take a beating with more athletes still pulling out. British tennis player Elena Baltacha has withdrawn from the Games citing health concerns. She told the Daily Telegraph that she took her decision after seeing in the media the pathetic condition of the Village.
