Shivraj Patil submits probe report on 2G allocations to Kapil Sibal

The one-man committee of Justice Shivraj V Patil on Monday submitted its probe report on allocations of 2G Spectrum allocation to Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal.

The Telecom Ministry had appointed the former Supreme Court judge to find out if proper guidelines were followed in the allocations of 2G spectrum licences during 2001-2009.

The probe report is expected to state if the Telecom ministry rules were broken in the allocation.

Media reports said Justice Patil submitted at least five folders to Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal.

The concerned ministry had instituted the inquiry committee after former Telecom Minister A Raja disputed the Comptroller and Auditor General’s indiction claiming that all along he maintained the official procedures in the allocation of 2G spectrum licences.

Sibal said the committee report was “fearless,” though he had not gone through it yet.

DMK leader A Raja was forced to quit as Telecom Minister in November after a CAG report alleged that the 2G spectrum licences was undersold to benefit private companies, subsequently causing a loss of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore to the government exchequer.
