In more bad news for Delhiites after the hike in bus and Metro fares, the Delhi government on Tuesday announced upto two-and-a-half times increase in water tariff in the city from New Year, besides putting an end to the free water scheme that mostly benefitted the lower income groups.
Announcing the hike, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the consumption linked tariff structure will help the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) meet its increasing operational cost and modernise the entire distribution network.
