Volunteers are the backbone of CWG: Kalmadi
New Delhi : Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Sunday exhorted the volunteer force of Protocol and CGA relations to involve the citizens of Delhi and make the Games a huge success.
He also nominated Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara as the volunteer for Delhi 2010.
?The world class infrastructure is ready for Delhi 2010,? Kalmadi said.
?We have developed best-ever Games Village and I am sure athletes will love the hospitality. The volunteers, who will be the face of the Games to the world, will have a huge role to play in that success,? he said.
?You volunteers are the backbone of the Games,? Kalmadi stressed. ?You will have to involve the citizens of Delhi through their parents, friends and neighbors. Every volunteer will get a certificate at the end of the Games which you would be able display with pride.?
Subrata Roy Sahara, while addressing the other co-volunteers, said “these games will not only increase the infrastructure, develop sports, build business relations, but above all will also increase the pride of the country.”
“I am thankful to the Organising Committee for giving me an opportunity to be a part of Delhi United volunteer programme for the Commonwealth Games,? he said.
?Media, sportsperson, officials, guests and delegates from all over the world are coming,? Subrata Roy added.
?They should be delighted with the preparation and hospitality. This will only be possible through the efforts of all of us, the volunteer community. All volunteers must be humble and understand the importance of the words ?sorry? and ?excuse us?,? he said.
?This is a time for all of us to look forward to make this national festival grand and successful. Now we should only think of the Commonwealth Games the way Arjun was targeting only the fish?s eye and nothing else,? added Roy.
The Volunteer Programme, christened ?Delhi United?, will be an important aspect of the Commonwealth Games as they will be the face of the Games to the more than 7000 athletes and officials as well as to around 1.7 million spectators.
