Who will open CWG: Prince or President?

New Delhi : Not just the preparations for the XIX Commonwealth Games (CWG) that are unfinished, India is also yet to decide on who will formally open the Games on Sunday (October 3).

While Prince Charles was deemed to be the natural choice for opening the Games after the Queen decided to stay away, the Indian President?s name is also doing the rounds as a possible contender for the honour.

Queen Elizabeth had deputed her son, Prince Charles, to represent her at the CWG and decided not to open the Games herself, as is the tradition.

Apparently unhappy at the Queen?s refusal to attend the CWG, the host nation is now contemplating to invite Indian President Pratibha Patil to open the Games.

?The decision is yet to be taken,? Archana Datta, secretary to the Indian president, was quoted in reports on Monday.

?If the decision is taken, I will let the media know,? she added.

There was no confirmation yet on who will open the Games on Sunday.

Prince Charles will arrive in India on Saturday with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.

They will visit neighbouring cities of Delhi during their five-day tour.
