Winter session of Parliament begins on Tuesday
New Delhi : The winter session of Parliament began on Tuesday and the issue of corruption is likely to make it stormy though Congress sacked two of its tainted leaders ahead of the session.
“We are ready to discuss all issues,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said ahead of the session, hoping that the coming days would be peaceful.
“We are looking forward to the session and we hope that this session will be peaceful and productive,” he said.
Several key bills are likely to be placed in the session that concludes on Dec 13.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sharpening its strategy to attack the Congress, though the ruling party somewhat blunted their edge by sacking Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan over the Kargil housing scam and Suresh Kalmadi as the secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) for his alleged role in the Commonwealth Games projects.
“The mother of all scams, 2G, remains untouched. It is a massive scam,” said Congress spokesperson Prakash Javadekar, referring to the continuation of A Raja as Telecom Minister. Raja is from DMK party.
“No body will buy the theory that Congress will not condone corruption. It was Congress which appointed Kalmadi,” he said.
