IITs surviving because of students: Jairam Ramesh
Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday criticized Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) saying the faculties are not up to the mark and that the institutions are surviving because of students.
“IITs are surviving because of their students. There is hardly any worthwhile research from our IITs. The faculty in the IIT is not world class,? Ramesh told reporters here.
“It is the students in IITs who are world class. So the IITs and IIMs are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty,” he said.
Pertinently, Ramesh graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) with a B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering in 1975.
