Shabana Azmi turns 60

New Delhi : Retirement seems to be the most unlikely word to be attached with the cerebral actor Shabana Azmi as she staged a documentary play titled ?Seven? by Vital Voices on Friday on the eve of her 60th birthday, reports said.

The play is the culmination of a four-day regional women?s leadership and training summit in the capital co-sponsored by U.S.based Non- Governmental Organisation ‘Vital Voices’.

The documentary play was based on interviews with seven real life women.

During the rehearsal period Shabana had Tweeted her fans: “Date closing in for performance of SEVEN in Delhi.Rehearsals r bringing all of d players closer. That’s d fun part sharing anxiety and fun.”

Surely, the actor still feels the same anxiety and fun before staging a play.

Shabana played the character which was played by actress Meryl Streep when it was staged in US.

A versatile actor, Shabana Azmi has always been known for her powerful portrayal of characters.

It was Ankur directed by Shyam Benegal where this powerful actor was first seen on the big screen.

It is said that Azmi was not the first choice for the movie, as several leading actors of that time had refused to do it.

Shabana got the opportunity to act in it, and the film became critically acclaimed.

Since then she had acted in several successful Bollywood movies like- Paar, Masoom, Arth, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai,1947 (Earth) and 15 Park Avenue.

She has received 5 National Film Awards for Best Actress in her long acting career.

Married to poet, lyricist and screenplay writer Javed Akhtar, Azmi is busy with her upcoming projects now.

She is already working on her play ?Broken Images? and media reports say she will also act in Deepa Mehta?s screen adaptation of ?Midnight?s Children?.
