Mumbai : Brooke Bond Taj Mahal, India?s premium tea blend, in association with the Enlighten Film Society conferred the ?Taj Enlighten Tareef Award? on Shabana Azmi on Sundayfor her outstanding contribution to world cinema.
The award was presented by Arun Srinivas, Category Head – Beverages, HUL at Cinemax, Versova in Mumbai. It was bestowed on her a day after she celebrated her 60th birthday.
The ?Taj Enlighten Tareef Award? is a symbol of excellence in cinema and a tribute to Shabana for her passion and contribution to cinema.
Known to be the resurgent face of feminism of modern India, Shabana?s brilliance on celluloid has won her many awards and accolades. She has portrayed powerhouse characters in noteworthy films by India’s leading art and mainstream filmmakers, placing her on an international pedestal.
Speaking on the occasion, Arun Srinivas, Category Head – Beverages, HUL said, ?It gives us immense pleasure to present the Taj Enlighten Tareef Award to the versatile Shabana Azmi, who defined parallel cinema with her outstanding performances.?
The Taj Enlighten Film Society is dedicated to the cause of spreading good cinema by showcasing both national and international films to discerning film enthusiasts.
Speaking about the association, Bhawana Somaya, film lover and an integral part of Enlighten Film Society said, ?The Taj Enlighten Film Society is a film society with a difference. Since its inception in 2007, it has grown to become India?s largest film society, with over 10,000 members.?
Beginning September 5, the Taj Enlighten Film Society launched a festival showcasing Shabana Azmi?s films, across the last four decades.
The films that were part of the festival were Ankur, Ek Doctor ki Maut, Godmother, Dharavi and Fire which were screened every Sunday at 10am at Cinemax, Versova and Metro Big Cinemas.
