Singer-actor Adnan Sami to get Indian citizenship

New Delhi: Singer-actor Adnan Sami will get an Indian citizenship on January 1 of 2016 , home ministry officials said.

Sami, who is of Pakistani origin, was born in Britain, and was a Canadian citizen. He has been living in India on visa since March 2001. He was last given a visa extension in October this year.

The Indian citizenship was granted after he made a representation to the home ministry on May 26 requesting for it on humanitarian grounds
