Lovable characters secret behind ‘Comedy Nights…’ success: Kapil

Comic show “Comedy Nights with Kapil” is currently the most-watched show on Indian television and host Kapil Sharma believes that the secret behind the show’s success is the equal love that all the characters receive from the audiences.

“In some shows you find certain things good and certain not so good. But in our show all the artists and characters are getting an equally good response and, according to me, this is the reason behind any show’s success,” the 32-year-old said here in an interview.

“Like my dadi, my wife, Sunil Grover as Gutthi, my bua played by Upasna Singh. They are such lovable characters and we did not anticipate such response,” he added.

Kapil plays the main character Bittu in the show. Ali Asgar plays Bittu’s grandmother, Sumona Chakravarti plays his wife. Sunil Grover chips in as various characters, including Bittu’s popular neighbour Gutthi.

Kapil plans to keep the show interesting by introducing new characters regularly.

“We will continue to show new characters so that people keep enjoying the show. But the things that people enjoy, they want those things again and again. I am there and same with all our characters,” he said.

Kapil also feels that the fun quotient in the interviews with the stars during the show is what makes the film stars also visit the show.

“You must have seen a lot of talk shows where celebrities are asked questions like ‘When did your first film come?’ about second, third and so on. But in our show the common man thinks that this star has not come for an interview, he has come to our house,” Kapil said.

“We also show our characters as being very casual with the celebrities. So ours is a very funny interview and that’s why everyone also wants to come to the show. Shah Rukh Khan came twice, our show’s stature also increases because of them. Their participation is as much as ours. I hope this love continues,” he added.

Kapil came to prominence after winning season 3 of reality show “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge”.

He later did various editions of “Comedy Circus” before starting his own production house K9 Productions under which he produces “Comedy Nights With Kapil”.
