IGNOU to train doctors in diabetes Mellitus
New Delhi : Indira Gandhi National Open University?s School of Health Sciences (SOHS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)with Hansa Med Cell of Hansa Vision Pvt. Ltd. to launch a PG Diploma Programme for Medical graduates in Diabetes Mellitus.
The programme will be open to medical graduates looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the area of medical diabetology, IGNOU said on Wednesday.
According to the terms of agreement, SOHS along with Hansa Med Cell will design and develop the programme with its panel of eminent diabetes specialists from across the country.
Srinivasan K. Swamy, Group Chairman, Hansa Vision remarked,? Diabetes has become a pandemic today. The International Diabetes Foundation estimates that the number of diabetes cases in India has doubled from 19 million in 1995 to 40.9 million in 2007.
?It is estimated that by 2030, every 5th person with diabetes will be an Indian. Hence we have taken up the herculean task of improving healthcare for diabetics, in collaboration with IGNOU.?
Speaking about the forthcoming programmes of the School, Bimla Kapoor, Director, SOHS announced, ?Department of AYUSH, Government of India, is funding for the development of a Certificate programme in AYUSH Nursing for Auxillary Nurses and Midwives,(ANMs).The programme is expected to be launched from the Jan 2011 session. 30 in service ANMs in 20 centres of AYUSH will be enrolled for the programme. ?
PG Diploma in Diabetes Mellitus is expected to be launched from the Jan 2011 session and will be offered through IGNOU Study centres as well as the centres of Hansa Vision.
