2G: Morani bail rejected, gets jail
A special CBI court here on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Bollywood producer and Cineyug Films promoter Karim Morani in the 2G scam case.
The film baron was taken into judicial custody for a fortnight and is being sent to Tihar jail.
His brother Mohammed Ali Morani said the judgement will be challenged in a high court.
Morani?s bail plea was filed after he was accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of channeling kickbacks of the massive 2G swindle through his production company to Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK)-first family run Kalaignar TV.
Morani had been seeking exemptions for the judiciary citing medical grounds, but he was forced to appear before the court earlier.
DMK MP and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, who is now in Tihar jail and awaiting a verdict on her bail plea in the Delhi High Court Monday as well, is a stake holder in the Kalaignar TV, which is allegedly one of the beneficiaries of the 2G scam money amounting to around Rs 214 crore.
Mornai’s firm is accused of routing the 2G scam money to Kalaignar TV.
Kanimozhi has been chargesheeted as the controlling mind behind the TV company by the CBI.
