2G Scam: CAG to appear before PAC

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), whose leaked report of an estimated Rs 1.76 lakh loss from 2G spectrum allocation created the ongoing furore and led to A Raja’s resignation, will appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament on Monday, media reports said.

Reports said CAG Vinod Rai will appear before the PAC panel, which is headed by opposition Bharatiya Janata Party’s Murli Manohar Joshi.

The agenda of the PAC meeting to be chaired by Joshi said: “Briefing by and interaction with the CAG of India on the audit report on the issue of licences and allocation of 2G spectrum.”

The ruling Congress has been rooting for a PAC probe into the allegations as against a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation demanded steadfastly by the opposition, creating a standoff over the issue.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had offered to appear before the PAC on the scam to clear all doubts regarding delays by his office in acting against Raja.

Former Telecom minister A Raja was earlier questioned for two straight days on Dec 24 and 25 by the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) in connection with the 2G Spectrum allocation scam.
