2G scam: CBI director AP Singh appears before PAC
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director AP Singh on Thursday appeared before the Parliament?s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in connection with the 2G Spectrum allocation scam.
Singh reportedly met PAC chief Murli Manohar Johsi at the Parliament House.
Details regarding the meeting were not known, though it is believed that the CBI director shared information the agency has collected in its investigations into the scam.
Both the CBI and the PAC are conducting independent probes into the 2G scam, believed to be the biggest scam in independent India.
The PAC has so far had meetings with former telecom secretaries SS Behura and DS Mathur and former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman Pradip Baijal.
The Prime Minister has also volunteered to appear before the PAC.
The CBI, which is scheduled to file its charge-sheet in the Supreme Court by March 31, has claimed several bigwigs so far, including former Telecom minister A Raja, currently languishing in Tihar jail after being arrested by the CBI.
Meanwhile, DMK MP Kanimozhi is likely to be questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) before March 31 in connection with the 2G Spectrum allocation scam.
Kanimozhi, who is the daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, will be grilled over fund transfers from a private firm indicted in the scam to Kalaignar TV, a regional channel in which Karunanidhi?s family owns majority stake.
Reports indicated that the MP will have to face the CBI before the end of this month.
The CBI is probing transfer of Rs 200 crore from Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa?s DB Realty firm to the television channel.
The investigating agency is enquiring if these funds were in any manner connected with allocation of 2G Spectrum at undervalued price.
Kalaignar TV?s managing director Sharat Kumar is also likely to be questioned by the CBI in the case.
Balwa has already been arrested, along with former telecom minister and DMK MP A Raja, in the scam.
