Anti-rape protests continue in Delhi
New Delhi : The hunger strike continued Wednesday and so did protests for justice for the 23-year-old gang-rape victim and stricter legislation against rape and other crimes against women with scores of people gathering again in Jantar Mantar in the heart of the national capital.
Rajesh Gangwar and Babu Singh, who have been on a hunger strike, spent another night at the protest site in the biting cold – even as the temperature dipped to 4.8 degree Celsius early Wednesday. Gangwar, from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, is on the 10th day of his fast. Babu Singh, from Farrukhabad also in Uttar Pradesh, is on day five of his fast.
Both are demanding immediate death sentences for the six attackers behind the gruesome gang-rape of the physiotherapy student who died in a Singapore hospital. The six are in Tihar Jail.
Gangwar and Babu Singh were examined by N.K. Bhatia, medical director of an NGO Mission Jan Jagriti, who said their vital parameters were normal.
Other protesters, demanding punishment for rape accused and justice in all rape cases, had stayed the night braving the cold but the crowds started flowing in as the morning progressed.
The protest spot continues to be heavily guarded with hundreds of police personnel begin present with riot gear.
Some NGOs were seen distributing hot milk to the protesters.
