Bangalore : A youth, resembling the attacker of a woman in an ATM here Nov 19, has been seen caught on CCTV camera at an ATM in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, police said Sunday.
The man was seen at Kadiri in Anantapur district, around 175 km from Bangalore.
“Our teams are in hunt for the suspect as he is still at large. As we got some vital clues about him, we are confident of nabbing him soon,” Bangalore Commissioner of Police Raghavendra Auradkar told IANS.
From the closed circuit television footage shared by Andhra police with the state police, the suspect is seen in a State Bank of India ATM kiosk standing behind two people Nov 12 to draw cash with a debit card, in the same dress in which he attacked state-run Corporation Bank manager Jyothi Uday in her bank’s ATM in the city centre a week later (Nov 19).
“Though the person in the footage of both ATM kiosks appears to be same in features and dress, we are not in a position to confirm unless he is nabbed and questioned,” Auradkar said.
The suspect in both footage is seen wearing a blue-striped shirt and cream-coloured pants with an identical shoulder bag.
The State Bank of India ATM kiosk is located at a crowded bus stand at Kadiri.
When Andhra police found the suspect to be same as the person seen attacking Jyothi, they scanned CCTV footage of all ATMs in the district and traced him drawing money Nov 10 from an ATM at Dharmavaram, 185 km from Bangalore.
“The suspect had used an ATM card he snatched from a woman (Pramila) near Kadiri. He also tried to draw money with the same card Nov 15 in Bangalore but could not as it was blocked by then,” said a police official investigating the case.
