BJP demonstrates against women molestation
Hundreds of activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) North East Sampark Cell (NESC) staged a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar, protesting against the growing incidents of molestation and rape of women from North-East, here on Friday.
The demonstration was lead by senior BJP leaders like Nirmala Sitharaman.
The protesters which included large numbers of students demanded that the culprits behind the recent gangrape of a Mizo BPO employee in south Delhi be brought to book immediately and urgent measures be taken to ensure the safety and security of women from the North-East region.
Sitharaman demanded that the Union Home Ministry convene an emergency meeting and assure people of the North East that their children studying and working in Delhi were safe.
The said the party would raise in Parliament the issue of their safety.
Vijendra Gupta, President, Delhi BJP, said that the crime graph was on the rise and the common man was suffering and held the Sheila Dikshit Government responsible. He demanded that the guilty be brought to book.
Member of the Parliament, P Kabindra Purkayastha also demanded immediate action against the guilty and said the issue would be raised in Parliament.
Sunil Deodhar, S C National Convenor, said, ?Delhi has witnessed 15 cases of rape involving victims from the North-East since 2009.?
Citing recent instances, where the Cell intervened to secure justice for the victims, he said the party would spare no stone unturned to protect the respect and dignity of the people from North East and to ensure that they were not humiliated and the culprits were brought to book.
