BJP slams PM over food inflation

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday hit out at the Prime Minister for “betraying” the common man for letting India’s food inflation touch a 10-week high of 14.4 percent.

“It has once again jolted the common man already reeling under over all inflation. Not withstanding the uncalled hike of petroleum prices done recently and already prevailing high prices of LPG gas effecting each and every household nationwide,” BJP said in a statement.

According to data released on Thursday, India’s food inflation in mid-December hit 14.4 percent, fuelled by high prices of onions and tomatoes causing concern that the overall inflation might cross tolerable limits of between 5.5 to 6 percent by March-end.

Food inflation in the week ended Dec 11 had risen 12.13 percent from a year earlier.

Slamming the Centre, BJP said “Economic policies of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government has devastated the aspirations of the common man.”

“PM has once again jolted the nation with a cruel and unbearable price situation as the New years Gift to the country,” it said.
