British cops hunt for bearded attackers of Lt.Gen Brar

London : Police in Britain have sought information on four men with “long beards” following a vicious knife attack here on Lt.Gen. (Retd) K.S. Brar, who led the Indian Army operation into the Golden Temple at Amritsar in Punjab in June 1984.

Brar, who was on the hit-list of Sikh militant groups, was on a private visit to London when he was attacked.

London Metropolitan Police said that Brar “was assaulted with what is believed to be a knife or sharp implement and suffered a wound on his neck”.

“His wife was not injured in the attack,” it added.

“The four men are described as wearing dark clothing and long black jackets. They all had long beards. One of the men is described as younger and slimmer than the other three,” said the appeal by the police.

The police said that they are “keeping an open mind as regards motivation for the attack”.

There have been no arrests so far.
