CBI arrests two absconding accused in Jnaneshwari Train case

The Central Bureau of Investigation along with Jhargram police has arrested two absconding accused i.e. Altaf Hossain Saiyed R/o Modabandh, Jhargram (West Bengal) and Tapan Mahato R/o Akhrasole, Jhargram (West Bengal) today against whom rewards were announced to the tune of Rs. 50,000/- each in Jnaneshwari Express Train Case . Both the accused will be produced tomorrow in designated court. Total persons arrested so far in Jnaneshwari Train case has gone upto 12 at present.

The CBI took over the investigation on 10.06.2010 and also constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to look into the professional investigation of the accident and derailment of Train No.2102 Howrah-Kurla Jnaneshwari Express on 28.05.2010. In this case, deaths of more than 140 persons were taken place and several others were injured. Property worth crores were damaged / destroyed. The investigation involves close co-ordination and co-operation between amongst several organizations, agencies and individuals. The JIT comprises three officers of CBI, three officers of State Police, two officers of Railways Protection Force, one officer of Railway Board & two Forensic Experts for carrying out the investigation in a time bound manner. The JIT is headed by Joint Director of CBI.
