Congress asks the Central Government: When will Lalit Modi be brought back?
New Delhi: On Friday, the Congress asked the central government to mention a time frame for bringing back former cricket IPL chief Lalit Modi to the country and alleged that he enjoyed the patronage of the ruling NDA dispensation.
The Enforcement Directorate has said it wants to question the former Indian Premier League chief on money laundering charges.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters here, “The government should tell us when it will get Lalit Modi back to the country”.
He said the Congress would raise the issue inside and outside parliament.
Surjewala said, former finance minister P. Chidambaram wrote to the British authorities two years ago, calling for the deportation of Lalit Modi over money laundering charges, adding that the then UPA government wished Lalit Modi to be brought back to face the law.
