CWG brought attitudinal change: Chidambaram

There has been an attitudinal change in the Delhi public as well as Delhi Police personnel, in the wake of recently concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG), said Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

He was addressing the 15th Nagaland Armed Police (IR) Mahila Batallion here on Saturday.

The Batallion had been on duty at the Games.

?No one found anything negative about the security arrangements for the Games. People of Delhi have possibly learnt to live and adjust their behaviour to the stringent security situations,? said Chidambaram.

“The Commonwealth Games brought change in public attitude towards security.”

He said that Delhi Police personnel also showed much courteous and helpful behaviour during their duties at the Games and this attitude must not change.

He also praised the Delhiites for their good behaviour and patience during the CWG while extolling the security personnel and police for their tremendous job.

He said the Delhiites behaviour also changed and hoped it is not short-lived.

“I hope this is not a temporary change. It must remain forever. Delhi people must also learn how to follow the rules and drive in lanes,” he said.

Urging the people to follow rules and cooperate with the cops, Chidambaram said: “Nothing can compensate for hours put in by police personnel. [They] stand in streets for 14-15 hours a day and that’s not easy.”

Chidambaram applauded the personnel and officers of 15th Nagaland Armed Police (IR) Mahila Batallion for performing their duties with dedication and efficiency.

?The Mahila Batallion performed as effectively as any other Force, proving that they are in no way less than their male counterparts,? the minister said adding Mahila battalions had been raised to remove the myth of gender bias.

To the need for lightweight weapons for Mahila Batallion, Chidambaram said the Ministry would surely look into this aspect when procurements take place.
