Defence ministry to re-probe Capt Kohli?s death
Chandigarh : Defence Minister AK Antony on Tuesday ordered reinvestigation into the death of Shaurya Chakra awardee Captain Sumit Kohli, who had purportedly committed suicide in his residential quarter in Jammu and Kashmir four years back ? a theory dismissed by his family.
Antony, in a letter to the late Captain?s mother Veena, said he has instructed the Defence ministry to re-probe the circumstances surrounding Captain Sumit?s death.
Veena Kohli had met the Union minister on August 28, urging him to order an independent enquiry to ascertain the cause of her son?s death.
Contrary to Army?s court of enquiry report into Captain Sumit?s death in 2006, stating it to be a case of suicide, Kohli has claimed that her son was murdered and wants a new probe to clear her son?s name.
Captain Sumit, who was serving with the 18 Rashtriya Rifles, was found dead with gunshot wounds in his room in the military barracks in Lolab on April 30, 2006, on the last day of his posting in Lolab.
He had been decorated with Shaurya Chakra, the third highest peace time gallantry medal, just two months before the incident.
