Delhi court issues warrant for Abu Jundal

New Delhi  :  A Delhi court Wednesday issued a warrant for 26/11 key suspect Abu Jundal to be brought before it Sep 28, after taking note of the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police against him.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Prakash issued the warrant after taking note of the charge sheet filed against Jundal by Delhi Police Special Cell Sep 20.

Abu Jundal taught Hindi and local languages spoken in Mumbai to the 10 terrorists who perpetrated the 2008 Mumbai attack,” said police in the charge sheet.

Police added that Jundal with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) member Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and others was present in the “control room” in Pakistan for monitoring the Mumbai attack Nov 26, 2008, that left 166 people killed.

The court was informed that the accused was named in 10 terror cases.

“Jundal disclosed that he is a member of the LeT and knew all leaders of the Indian Mujahideen and motivated some members for jehad,” the charge sheet said.

He was charged with offences of conspiracy, forgery and possession of forged or counterfeit currency notes under the Indian Penal Code and also booked under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act.

Jundal was arrested June 21 by Delhi Police following a disclosure by an accused in a firing incident at Jama Masjid here ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010. The accused, Mohd. Adil, told police interrogators that Jundal motivated him for jehad.

Jundal was arrested at Delhi International Airport upon arrival from Saudi Arabia in June. He is currently in the custody of the Mumbai police anti-terrorism squad. He was remanded in police custody Sep 11 for his links with Sheikh Lalbaba Farid, alias Bilal, also an alleged LeT member.

On Sep 24, Jundal’s police custody was extended till Oct 3 by Nashik’s Chief Judicial Magistrate A.D. Sawant.
