Boxer Ram Singh admitted meeting drug dealer: Police
Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab) : Punjab Police Saturday said they have got vital clues to indicate drug dealer Anoop Singh Kahlon’s links with boxers Vijender Singh and Ram Singh in a drug smuggling case.
Police have detained Ram Singh, a constable in the force, and questioned him.
According to sources, Ram Singh admitted to the police that he and Vijender Singh met Kahlon, an NRI arrested last Thursday, three times last December.
Ram Singh was summoned for questioning Friday while he practicing at National Institute of Sports in Patiala.
“We are scrutinising the call records of Kahlon to find out whether he was in touch with the boxers,” said Hardyal Singh Mann, a senior superintendent of police.
Kahlon tried to slash his wrists in the police station here Saturday.
The names of Vijender Singh and Ram Singh came to light after 26 kg heroin was recovered from Kahlon’s flat in Zirakpur, a town near Chandigarh, and he told police the boxers were his clients.
Police also found a SUV, registered in the name of Vijender’s Singh wife, parked outside Khalon’s flat.
“The vehicle was used by Ram Singh to drop Vijender at Chandigarh airport Wednesday. Now we have to find out how this vehicle reached the house of a drug peddler. Ram Singh admitted he knew Kahlon but refused buying any kind of drugs from him. We will question him again,” said a senior police official, requesting anonymity.
Sources said there was a probability that Olympic medallist Vijender Singh, currently in Mumbai, might also be asked to come to Punjab to join the investigation.
Kahlon, a truck driver in Canada, and Kulwinder Singh from a village in Mohali district, were arrested from Zirakpur Thursday and have been sent to police remand.
