Forensic teams examine Mumbai gang rape spot
Mumbai : Forensic experts from Gujarat and Delhi arrived here Tuesday to collect the evidence in the gang rape of a young photojournalist by five men last week, police said.
“The team went to the compound at the Shakti Mills where the crime was committed and collected some samples from the spot,” said a police officer.
The two groups of experts from Delhi’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory and Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory thoroughly examined the area. They also took evidences the local police had collected just after the case was lodged.
On Monday, Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh had assured early justice for the young photojournalist and had said that the evidence will be handed over to forensic experts.
He had also said that his priority was to collect the evidence and file the charge sheet as soon as possible.
The 22-year-old photojournalist was gang raped by the five accused when she was on an assignment for an English magazine and had gone to a desolate area in central Mumbai to take pictures of the abandoned factories. Her male companion was also attacked by the accused.
With the arrest of two accused Sunday, police have now taken into custody all the five suspects.
Meanwhile, one of the suspect’s mother visited to him in lockup, where he reportedly confessed to his crime before her.
