Fresh curfew clamped in Srinagar on Tuesday morning

Fresh curfew was clamped in Srinagar on Tuesday morning as protesters fanned out into the streets to vent their anger over police firing on Yasir Rafiq, a cousin of J & K Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik, on Monday.

As news reached that the condition of Yasir was critical in a hospital, men and women poured into the streets to voice protest against police firing on the cousin of the separatist leader.

The policeman, who shot at the youth, has been suspended and taken into police custody, police said.

There was violence in Srinagar on Monday after the police constable fired at people trying to violate curfew. Five people were injured in that firing.

According to J&K police, a mob attacked a police mobile bunker in Chatpora Pulwama.

“The mob surrounded it from all sides and tried to drag the driver out. The policeman fired in self defence injuring two persons. They injured persons have been referred to Srinagar hospital,” a police official said.
Heavy pelting was reported on Monday Pulwama police station and at a Police Post (PP) at Sherbagh in Anantnag.
