Hizbul Mujahideen militant arrested in Kashmir

A militant from banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was arrested by the police in Kashmir on Saturday.

On a specific input, Baramulla Police, with the assistance of Security forces (54 CRPF and 29RR) arrested one local, Pakistan-trained militant at Chinar Colony Pattan on Saturday.

?The militant has been identified as Nisar Ahmad Rather @Abu Kamal. He was affiliated to the banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM),? said the police.

One Chinese Pistol along with one magazine and five rounds of live ammunition and two Chinese Hand Grenades have been recovered from his possession.

?A case FIR NO: 47/2011 under section 7/25 J&K Arms Act has been registered in the matter and investigation taken up,? said the police.

The said militant had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in year 1999 and had recently infiltrated back. He had been operating in Beerwa, Pakherpora, Kreeri Pattan area for some time now.

?His arrest is considered as a major success for the police as it will lead police to know about the group activities of the other militants operating in the area; their future plans and strategy; their role in the recent killings in the district,? said the police.

?It will also help police to know about their role in the violent protests of the last summer and their plan of the anticipated protests etc., in the coming time,? the police said.
